  1. -Student Samples are a great way to actually show your students what you would like them to do, rather than just an explanation. This will improve instructional design & overall student achievement.

-I can ensure students will achieve the objectives by creating student samples to guide their progress. Also, I could create checklists & rubrics so that they students are fully aware of what is expected of them & how they will be evaluated.

  2. Student samples can give students an idea of the quality of your expectations. Simple mounting techniques shown for a storyboard or poster presentation can make all the difference in the appearance of a project. It says I took my time to produce a project I can be proud of. I agree with Mr. Stewart that checklists and rubrics can assure the student that all steps are taken for success and the due date is met. A visual example can be a jumping off point for creative ideas to enhance a project and make it unique.

  3. The creation of a student sample can help the teacher to generate a positive learning environment, a culture of inquiry and thought, and a climate of passion and excitement. It gives us an opportunity to identify and design various strategies for developing interdisciplinary curriculum.

Project-based learning opens the door naturally to a multi-task approach to learning. It allows students to work independently and collaboratively, self-monitor, and set goals. Teachers should demonstrate time management strategies and skills, and monitor progress of groups and individuals within groups.

  4. Student samples allow a teacher to demonstrate what kind of product they expect at the end of a unit. They can also be used to demonstrate,step-by-step, how a finished product is created. By working through the project in class and with the students, they can learn the process through which their final product is developed.

The beauty of project-based learning is that it opens the door for students to expand their avenues of learning and to focus on concepts and ideas that really, genuinely interest them. By creating an authentic product, students become more invested in their own learning and become better learners. At the same time, students are called to learn specific information and processes, helping them to practice skills and concepts that they will need later on.
